Lake Tahoe’s Winter Fun-derland

Part of Lake Tahoe’s wonder is that it has something for everyone in any season. But if we’re honest with ourselves... we eagerly await winter’s arrival each year. The mountains have been begging for snow. The ski lift longs to overlook pine trees dressed in white. Everything around you feels crisp and invigorated, while a cozy fire awaits behind every closed door.

Surrounded by this beauty, there are a million ways to enjoy yourself without ever stepping foot on the slopes. Guests at the Famous Cabin deserve the best, so we’re here to give you the low-down on how to go above and beyond and create your very best day at Lake Tahoe this winter.

Morning

You’ll need a hearty breakfast to gear up for the day ahead. Venture out bright and early to see the fresh powder undisturbed, and gather your group around a table of huevos rancheros at Local’s Brunch Cafe. While your full bellies settle, stop by Revive Coffee & Wine to warm up with a cup of job on your way to Heavenly Mountain Resort - just 5 minutes from the Famous Cabin.. (Stop back to try the wine once your skis are off again.)

Hesitant about hitting the slopes? Sign up for ski school! Take in a group or private lesson to start your day off with safety and confidence.

Afternoon

The mountains are calling, and you can answer them all afternoon. Try your feet at skiing or snowboarding, or play it cool and hop in an innertube. Cruise the mountains any way that suits your sense of adventure, and stop by the Lodge for a snack in between rounds.

Feeling wintry but want a break from the wind on your cheeks? Strap on a pair of skates and glide about the South Tahoe Ice Arena. Don’t skip the hot cocoa.

If your skiing muscles need the day off, treat yourself to a relaxing massage at Mountain Aloha Massage. Located conveniently near the Famous Cabin, you can take a pre-dinner nap before your gang heads down the mountain.

Evening

After working up an appetite on the go all day, why not enjoy dinner at home? The newly remodeled kitchen is a dream for any foodie. If your culinary skills are no match for the stainless steel appliances and granite-topped island, think about hiring a personal chef from the area. You can shake up some drinks at the bar while they cook.

Social butterflies fear not; there are plenty of restaurants nearby to head out and shake things up a little. Check out Off the Hook Sushi and discover that snow and sake are actually a match made in heaven. Plan for a late or early meal and save plenty of time to partake in one of Lake Tahoe’s newest adventures: an escape room. Try splitting your crew into two groups at Trapped in Tahoe; last one out buys a round of drinks at the Lodge tomorrow.

Night

If you still have some pep in your step after dinner, hop on over to one of the casinos just five minutes away and live like you’re James Bond for a few hours. Or if you’re lucky, it might be karaoke night at RoJo’s Tavern. You can bet you’ll have a good time with plenty of local entertainment nearby.

You don’t need to look beyond your front door for a night of fun, though. The Famous Cabin is stocked with board games, movies, and more. Stage your own card tournament around the poker table, enjoy old fashioned cocktails around the jukebox, or chill out with satellite TV and a couple rounds of foosball.

Here for the holidays? Make yourself at home - open gifts around the fireplace, and celebrate with a traditional dinner around the large dining table.

And don’t miss the SnowGlobe Festival or Winter Ignite Party at Heavenly Mountain Resort. A combination of music and mountains, you’ve got to catch these concerts. Best part? Some of the biggest shows are free.

Break free from hotels and condos this winter and treat yourself to a one of a kind experience at The Famous Cabin. For more information and reservations call us at (530) 955-1004 or send us an email - just mention South Lake Tahoe and The Famous Cabin in your message. We can’t wait to see you!
